Back at Old Street: SCP, Chandigarh, and Closing the Festival of Print
Although the Cornwall Rocks billboard has now come down with the close of the Festival of Print, it still felt like a return to something energising.
SCP looked wonderful, filled with vibrant, thoughtful Christmas gifts displayed in that way only SCP manages: colourful, design-led, and full of character. It’s a place that always feels inspiring, and it set the tone perfectly before the talk.
Chandigarh: 60 Years After Le Corbusier
The evening’s talk was led by Ian Macready of Architourian, exploring Chandigarh: 60 Years After Le Corbusier.
It was a fascinating journey through the city’s evolving architecture and urban landscape. I’ve long wanted to visit Chandigarh, and seeing more imagery — past and present — has only pushed it further up my list.
One of my favourite parts of the talk was the focus on the remarkable Rock Gardencreated by Nek Chand, a self-taught artist and government employee whose vision resulted in one of the most extraordinary outsider-art environments in the world. His ability to transform found materials into an entire sculptural landscape is endlessly inspiring.
Cornwall Rocks: The Festival of Print
As some of you know, alongside my design practice I’m also an artist and printmaker, specialising in Mokulito printing— a technique that combines drawing and wood-based printmaking in a beautifully tactile way.
Each piece begins as a carved or drawn image on a wood plate, then develops through layers of ink, pressure, and texture. I also work in oil paint on canvas and wood, continuing my exploration of texture, mark-making, and colour.
Being part of this year’s Festival of Print with East London Printmakers was a joy. Sharing work, meeting fellow artists and print enthusiasts, and seeing people engage with Mokulito printing made the experience especially meaningful.
